Orokonui Ecosanctuary Visitor Center is a building that owned by The Otago Natural History, an organization that focuses on providing forest area for plants and animals to live free and safe from pest attack. An area of 307 hectares on the Orokonui valley, Waitati, New Zealand.
When planning this building, the client expects this building be able to reflect New Zealand and contextual to the area. A visitor center that can interpret the flora and fauna life as well as the uniqueness of local history, a design that sustainable. Architectural Ecology that entrusted as the planning team captures it and finish it well.
The area condition that foggy with extreme climate, the quite strong wind throughout the season, and snow in the winter. In the dry season occur drought that very severe, so the building highly response to this condition. Lightweight construction with wood materials and impressed open, so it is not “against” the wind.
